It Is Time for the Propaganda Police
As we stand on the precipice of a potential new Trump administration, it's imperative to confront the fact-empty, inflammatory propaganda emanating from figures like Alabama Governor Kay Ivey. Her portrayal of (DEI) initiatives as a "liberal political movement" are tiresome, baseless, lazy and disingenuous and must no longer go unchecked.
DEI initiatives are not about politics; they are about building environments where everyone can thrive. Companies that embrace DEI practices most often experience stronger financial performance, increased innovation, and improved employee satisfaction.
Companies like Apple and Costco demonstrate that DEI is not a liability. Apple's board of directors has recommended that shareholders vote against a proposal to eliminate the company's DEI programs.. Similarly, Costco continues to support its DEI efforts, recognizing the positive impact on business Apple and Costco DEI
DEI aligns with principles of fairness and opportunity, benefiting all individuals, not just select groups. By promoting inclusive practices, organizations create environments that reflect the diverse communities they serve..
Governor Ivey's rhetoric positions DEI as a partisan agenda, significant and familiar companies like Apple and Costco highlight the benefits of DEI initiatives for both business and society.
Enough of the nonsense. When I was a professor as more “news” consumption came from social media, I would take my students to the nonsense corner where we would analyze a rhetorical or ideological statement - starting with looking at the source. We would then “do our research” and find as many different sources as possible. We would then breakdown the arguments - separating facts and opinions to draw a conclusion. Yes it was time consuming but it must be done. Facts must move to the fore and lies must be labeled and called out, misinformation and disinformation must be met with facts and truth.
